    Mr. Coleman

    Cameron A. Coleman

“My life’s purpose is to end poverty in the
United States by ensuring the delivery of a World Class education
    to all students, without exception.”
     - Cameron A. Coleman

Cameron Ashley Coleman is a fourth-generation educator, with parents whom served more than a combined 70 years in education. His philosophy is that education is a Civil Rights Movement with teachers as the front line soldiers, and until we close the achievement gap our country will never reach its full potential.

An East St. Louis, Illinois native, Mr. Coleman started serving children and families in 1999 as a County Facilitator for St. Clair County Project Success. This initiative brought collaborative partners together to improve the quality of lives of K-8 students so that their overall school achievement would improve. Shortly afterwards, he gained certification with the North Central Regional Educational Laboratories in Community and School District Partnership Development and began training principals, non-profit organizations, and other community stakeholders in seven school districts. Within a year, he wanted to be closer to the solution and began his career in education in St. Louis Public Schools as a continuing substitute. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Professional Interdisciplinary Studies of Business Management, Psychology and Education from Harris-Stowe University, a Master of Arts Degree in Teaching and a Master of Arts Degree in Educational Administration from Lindenwood University. Mr. Coleman is certified in teaching grades 1-6 and Educational Administration grades K - 12 in Illinois and Missouri, and received recognition for one of the highest PRAXIS II scores ever earned in Missouri.

Since 2005 Mr. Coleman has served as a first, fourth, and sixth-grade teacher, Lead Teacher, summer school administrator, Curriculum Development Committee writer and editor, Professional Development Committee Chair, and Math Specialist K-6 in the Normandy School District. He has a plethora of experience in facilitating professional developments at the site and district levels. He was 1 of 1,000 teachers recognized nationally by Office Max for outstanding dedication and performance in 2010. Additionally, he has served as a consultant for HomeWorks! -- The Teacher Home Visit Project, and on the Programming Committee for Cultural Leadership, a program that trains high-school students to be community organizers, social justice activists, and "troublemakers of the best kind." He also volunteers regularly with the Men’s Support Group in East St. Louis, and other non-profit organizations focused on social justice, minority entrepreneur efforts, and initiatives to get his community out to vote.  Currently, he is a principal at Adams Elementary School with St. Louis Public Schools.

Not only has Mr. Coleman been a local force for transformational change, he has also co-written, received and facilitated the application of state and federal grants, including the Federal Drug-Free Communities Support Program Grant of 2.1 million dollars. He has also participated in data and research discussions at the Council of Great City Schools in Washington, D.C. A firm believer in lifelong learning, he plans to attain his Doctoral degree by 2015.
