1. Q. What does my child need to bring the first day of
school?
A. You will want to check with your individual school for
specific supplies. Basic supplies a student may need are pencils,
paper, and a backpack.
2. Q. How will I know my child’s bus stop?
A. Transportation notices are sent out from the transportation
office approximately two weeks prior to school starting. If
you have any questions regarding transportation call 367-6074.
3. Q. What do I do if my address changes?
A. You need to bring proof of your new address to the ESOL
Registration Center located at 3215 Kingshighway. Our phone
number is 776-1686 if you have any questions.
4. Q. How is it decided what school my child is going to attend?
A. Your home address determines your child’s school.
This is called a block-assignment. However, if the block-assigned
school does not have an ESOL program, another choice will be
made based on whether a school has ESOL services, transportation,
space for students.
5. Q. Do my children need their immunizations to attend school?
A. Yes, parents must keep their child’s immunization
record up to date and complete. They must provide proof of
immunizations to the school nurse. Schools will not admit children
without up to date immunizations.
6. Q. How often can my child miss school?
A. Missouri law requires that all children between the ages
of 7 and 16 attend school regularly. Students may not be
allowed to move up to the next grade level if they are absent
too often. A student should not stay home to baby sit siblings.
When a child misses 10 or more days the Division of Family
Services may be contacted to investigate absences. Your child
may also be referred to truancy court and asked to pay 25.00
dollars for each day they have missed.
7. Q. Are there any changes at my child’s school?
A. A number of schools have added new grade levels and have
changed starting and ending times. You will receive a school
assignment letter before school starts with your child’s
school, grade and starting and ending times. If you do not
receive this letter or if you have any questions, call 776-1686.
One major change is the opening of a 9th Grade Academy for
Roosevelt High School. All new 9th grade students who are assigned
to Roosevelt High School will attend school at the Lafayette
9th Grade Center at 815 Ann Ave. Please look at the table below

school will receive school bus transportation. There is a
major change in transportation for high school students.
Tickets for transportation on Bistate City buses will no
longer be given to students.
All high school students who live more than two (2) miles from
their assigned will receive yellow school bus transportation.
This includes students from neighborhood high schools as well
as magnet high schools.
