You can participate in the SLPS Benefits Plan
if you are an eligible employee. The district defines an eligible
employee as a full-time permanent employee with a scheduled
workweek of 30 hours or more. Eligible dependents can participate
in some of the benefit plans.
Your eligible dependents may include your:
• Legal spouse (unless legally separated);
• Unmarried dependent child until the end of the calendar year in which
he or she reaches age 19;
• Unmarried dependent child up to age 24, if he or she is a full-time student
at an accredited institution. If you identify the child as a student when you
add him or her to your coverage during each benefits enrollment, you may be required
to submit proof at least twice a year that your child is a full-time student;
• Unmarried dependent child of any age, if he or she depends on you for
support due to a continuing physical or mental disability that began before age
19, and the child was covered before age 19(as long as you provide verification
of the incapacity when asked); or
• Child who qualifies as your dependent under the terms of a qualified medical
child support order or other court or administrative order.
