The Board of Education’s Health Plan (the
“Health Plan”) is a separate legal entity and a covered
entity under the privacy provisions of the Health Insurance Portability
and Accountability Act, 43 U.S.C. 201 et seq. and 45 CFR Parts
160 and 164 (“HIPAA”). Eligible St. Louis Public
Schools’ employees may participate in the many benefits
offered by the Health Plan, such as health insurance, pharmacy
benefits, dental benefits and vision insurance. Eligible employees
and retired members (and certain survivors) of the Public School
Retirement System of the City of St. Louis (“PSRSSTL”)
are eligible for certain benefits under the Health Plan.
The Board of Education administers HIPAA compliance as to
the self-insured components of the Health Plan which are the
dental benefits and pharmacy benefits. As to the fully insured
components of the Health Plan, please contact the applicable
insurance company as to HIPAA compliance.
Those who request assistance from the Human Resources Division
of the Board with respect to benefit claims or issues under
both insured and/or self-funded components of the Health Plan
may be asked to sign a waiver, authorizing Board Human Resources
staff to discuss their benefit issues with providers. Waiver
forms are available from the Human Resources Division or by
checking the line below.
