The Board of Education’s Health Plan (the “Health Plan”) is a separate legal entity and a covered entity under the privacy provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, 43 U.S.C. 201 et seq. and 45 CFR Parts 160 and 164 (“HIPAA”). Eligible St. Louis Public Schools’ employees may participate in the many benefits offered by the Health Plan, such as health insurance, pharmacy benefits, dental benefits and vision insurance. Eligible employees and retired members (and certain survivors) of the Public School Retirement System of the City of St. Louis (“PSRSSTL”) are eligible for certain benefits under the Health Plan.

The Board of Education administers HIPAA compliance as to the self-insured components of the Health Plan which are the dental benefits and pharmacy benefits. As to the fully insured components of the Health Plan, please contact the applicable insurance company as to HIPAA compliance.

Those who request assistance from the Human Resources Division of the Board with respect to benefit claims or issues under both insured and/or self-funded components of the Health Plan may be asked to sign a waiver, authorizing Board Human Resources staff to discuss their benefit issues with providers. Waiver forms are available from the Human Resources Division or by checking the line below.
