SLPS Students Selected for Missouri Fine Arts Academy
Young
artists will broaden their creative, academic and social experiences
St. Louis - Three St. Louis Public Schools students are among
nearly 200 young Missouri artists selected to attend the 2007
Missouri Fine Arts Academy at Missouri State University in
Springfield. All SLPS students attend Central Visual and Performing
Arts High School.
Samantha Hornbeck, Reginald Jackson and Ricardo Mateo Rique-Sanchez
will join 183 other talented high school artists at the academy,
which will be held June 10 – 30. Students accepted into
the state-supported program have just completed their sophomore
or junior years. Hornbeck just completed her sophomore year.
Jackson and Rique-Sanchez have finished their junior year.
“We are excited that our students are being honored
for their outstanding accomplishments,” said Superintendent
Diana Bourisaw. “This unique opportunity allows young
artists to grow in their individual areas of expertise while
enjoying interdisciplinary coursework.”
The Fine Arts Academy, now in its twelfth year, is a three-week
residential program. It provides a challenging learning environment
for gifted visual and performing artists, including singers,
dancers, musicians, painters, and sculptors. The Department
of Elementary and Secondary Education sponsors the program.
It is hosted by Missouri State University.
