| THOUSANDS ATTEND BACK TO SCHOOL COMMUNITY RALLIES
St. Louis -- An estimated 3,400 families attended the two
Back to School community rallies held this past weekend at
the Monsanto YMCA and the Herbert Hoover Boys and Girls Club.
The August 26 events offered free haircuts, school supplies,
and community resources for our students. The St. Louis Public
Schools partnered with several organizations for the event,
including radio stations Hot 104.1, Foxy 95.5, and television
station KTVI Fox 2.
“We had many volunteers from the St. Louis Public Schools
who helped out in a variety of ways, including providing security,
handing out supplies, and providing resources for parents,”
said Interim Superintendent Dr. Diana Bourisaw.
Back to school supplies for the event were donated by a variety
of businesses and individuals. “We owe a special a special
thank you to the St. Louis Public Schools Foundation, National
City Bank, the Monsanto YMCA, and the Herbert Hoover Boys
& Girls Club, for donating back to school supplies,” Bourisaw
said.
