Missouri State Representatives Visit Roosevelt High School
Newly elected officials visit St. Louis Public Schools for
the first time in two years
St. Louis – Today, newly elected Missouri State Representatives
and Senators visited Roosevelt High School, one of the largest
schools in the St. Louis Public School district. Nearly 40
representatives, who were elected in November, are visiting
facilities around the state that are funded by taxpayers.
“It’s an event that takes place every two years
and is sponsored by the State Legislature,” said Steve
Carroll, lobbyist for the St. Louis Public School District. “This
gives officials an idea of what’s going on in the school
district.”
Allen Icet, chairman of the House Budget Committee, helped
organize the tour with Principal Terry Houston. “There
are so many issues in public education, and it is important
that newly elected officials tour the schools to familiarize
themselves with the district,” said Icet. “At the
state level we deal with so many different issues but we do
know that education is very important and we are happy to be
here today.”
Superintendent Dr. Diana Bourisaw, School Board President
Veronica O’Brien, and Vice President William Purdy greeted
the officials and took them on a tour of the school.
Roosevelt is St. Louis’ largest non-magnet high school
with more than 1, 200 students.
