| FAQ
1.
Do I have to strike?
No. In fact,
public employees in Missouri are prohibited from participating
in a strike, work stoppage or other job action. Even if members
of the Union vote to strike, no employee is required to participate
in the strike and the Board discourages all employees from
participating in a strike.
2.
What are the consequences if I strike?
The Board
of Education Policies and Regulations prohibit employees
from participating in a strike, work stoppage or other job
action, such as a sick out or Blue Flu. Policy P4690 applies
to strikes and work stoppages and permits the Board to immediately
discontinue salaries and benefits for all employees participating
in the strike/work stoppage other than those on prior approved
paid leave. Board Regulations and the Policy Statement further
prohibit employees from using sick leave or PTO for the purpose
of a work stoppage. Employees participating in a strike or
work stoppage are also subject to disciplinary action and
legal action. The Board may pursue disciplinary action, up
to discharge, against any employee participating in a strike.
The Board may also file a lawsuit seeking a temporary restraining
order or an injunction ordering all striking employees to
return to work or seeking monetary damages against striking
employees.
