SLPS CELEBRATES GROUNDHOG SHADOWING WEEK
HUNDREDS OF AREA PROFESSIONALS WILL BE SHADOWED
BY SLPS STUDENTS DURING GROUNDHOG JOB SHADOWING WEEK
Thursday was Groundhog Day. It’s also a special day
for many St. Louis Public School students who are moving closer
to college and career choices. The school district observed
the special day by sponsoring Groundhog job shadowing week
from January 30 through February 3. This week, hundreds of
9th, 11th, and 12th graders will shadow professionals from
area companies and agencies to provide students with first
hand knowledge about various types of careers utilizing their
academic skills. The program is a collaborative effort between
the St Louis Public Schools, Junior Achievement of Mississippi
Valley, Inc. and other community partners.
“Students are spending all or part of their day on the
job observing and interviewing workers in
career areas that match the student’s interest,”
said Lolita Hardiman, director of Career
and Technical Education.
A few of the participating companies include St. Louis Fire
Department, St. Louis Science Center,
Walgreens Pharmacy, Hyatt Regency and St. Louis Westin Hotels.
