ANCHORS SELECT FOUR SLPS STUDENT ANCHORS
Look
out local St. Louis television anchors! There are some up
and coming student anchors that could be anchoring network
news in the future.
St. Louis Public Schools have four new student news anchor
for the district’s new “Spotlight News” show
to be broadcast bi-weekly on SLPS-TV Channel 20.
The student anchors selected are; Nergis Cavitt, 10th grade,
Gateway Institute of Technology; Brennen Coleman, 12th grade,
Cleveland Naval Junior ROTC Academy;Kenneth Griffin, 12th grade,
Cleveland Naval Junior ROTC; and Jaqui Rogers, 11th grade,
Metro Academic and Classical High School.
Local
television anchors Mike Bush, KSDK-TV Channel
5; Mandy Murphey, KTVI- TV Fox 2 news; Richelle
Carey, KMOV-TV Channel 4 and Channel 20 TV
host Karen Hylton served as celebrity judges.
The purpose of the student newscast is to provide
good experience for students interested in
becoming journalists.
Kevin Prange, Channel 20’s producer, was impressed with
the candidates. “It was wonderful seeing some of the
best and the brightest in this district,” he said. “They
are eager, they are taking responsibility and we’re looking
forward to working with them.
The
student response was overwhelming. Twenty-five
students auditioned for the anchor positions.
The students who were not selected will serve
as field reporters covering interesting educational
news, activities and events. |
