SCRUGGS STUDENTS, STAFF WILL CELEBRATE LIFE AND LEGACY OF
DR. KING
Monday, January 15 is the National King Holiday
(January 11, 2007)—Students and staff at Scruggs Elementary
School will gather together to reflect on the life and legacy
of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at the school’s celebration
program at 2 p.m., Friday, January 12. The theme is Embracing
the Vision/Fulfilling the Dream. The program will be held at
the school, located at 4611 South Grand.
Students and staff will read about King’s contributions
and his commitment to civil rights. There will also be dancing,
singing and a litany of poetic readings. The slain civil rights
leader was killed by an assassin’s bullet April 4, 1968.
He was a Nobel Peace Prize winner and was credited for paving
the way for equal rights for African Americans.
