St. Louis Public School Students Participate in Groundhog
Job Shadowing
Fifty-Three Local Companies Welcome Students To
Their Businesses
St. Louis – Nearly 400 students in the St. Louis Public
School district will receive valuable lessons on career choices
during the much anticipated Groundhog Job Shadowing starting
on Monday, Feb. 5. Groundhog Job Shadowing is a partnership
effort involving the St. Louis Public Schools, Junior Achievement
of Mississippi Valley, Inc., and a wide variety of community
partners. St. Louis Public Schools high school students who
are currently in the 11th and 12th grade will participate in
the event through this May.
“This will give many of our students first hand information
about companies and career choices,” said Superintendent
Dr. Diana Bourisaw. “It will also give students a greater
appreciation of what it takes to get a job in a particular
field.
Job shadowing is a yearlong national effort to enrich the
lives of students by acquainting them with the world of work
through on-the-job experiences and a carefully crafted school
curriculum that ties academics to the workplace. The effort
helps young people understand how what they learn in the classroom
leads to success in the workplace. National job shadowing is
a coordinated effort of Junior Achievement Worldwide, America’s
Promise – The Alliance for Youth, the U.S. Department
of Education and the U.S. Department of Labor.
