St. Louis CVC Offers Hospitality Scholarships To Career Academy
ST. LOUIS -- January 11, 2008-- High school seniors who are interested in pursuing careers in hospitality or the culinary arts have a new opportunity for financial assistance. The St. Louis Convention & Visitors Commission (CVC) will provide two monetary scholarships to the Clyde C. Miller Career Academy, an academic school with a technical focus. The facility currently has 720 students in grades 9-12, and offers an expanded curriculum that includes hospitality studies, culinary arts, biotechnology, database management and manufacturing.
Investing in the future of St. Louis’ hospitality industry is the purpose behind the CVC’s scholarship award to the academy. “Our organization chose the academy based on its hospitality studies and culinary arts curriculum,” says Leo Ming, CVC Vice President of Human Resources. “The academy believes in connecting a school to careers and the CVC believes in making careers a reality, so the partnership’s ROI is incalculable.”
In addition to having achieved senior status, applicants for the scholarship must have at least a 2.5 GPA and been accepted to a four or two-year college or trade school with an accredited hospitality or culinary arts program. Students must also submit a 500-word essay detailing their personal career goals and objectives. A CVC scholarship selection committee will determine recipients March 24, 2008.
The St. Louis CVC is the official destination marketing organization for St. Louis City and County for visitors of all types, and operates the America’s Center® convention complex and the Edward Jones Dome.
