ST. LOUIS MAGNET SCHOOLS HOLD OPEN HOUSE

(January 31, 2005) - The St. Louis magnet schools will hold an Open House for parents who are interested in sending their children to a magnet school. The Open House Day will take place on Thursday, February 3, 2005. Parents and students will get the opportunity to tour a school, talk with administrators and take home informational literature. Those eligible to apply to attend a magnet school are any student living in St. Louis City and non-African American students living in participating school districts in St. Louis County.

All students who want to attend a magnet school must submit an application. Applicants are placed in the magnet schools by means of a lottery system. The purpose of the lottery is to allow an equal chance for all persons applying for magnet schools. This does not mean, however, that it is possible to place every child who applies. The placement lottery for the 2005-2006 school year will be held March 15, 2005. The following is a list of magnet schools, locations and times in which visits can take place.
