Classes begin August 20
St. Louis – Students of the St. Louis Public Schools
and their families will gather at Gateway Middle School for
the annual SLPS Back-to-School festival. The free fair will
be held from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., on Saturday, August 11, at
the Gateway Complex, 1200 North Jefferson Ave.
Free school supplies and backpacks will be distributed on
a first-come, first-served basis. Many local agencies and school
district offices will be on hand, providing free services including
immunization shots, school registration, notary services, children’s
activities and refreshments. The district’s ESOL division
will offer support for non-English speaking SLPS families.
Brown Shoe Company is collaborating with St. Louis Public Schools
in the effort.
The district is also sponsoring an open house event at all
school sites on Friday, August 17, from noon until 3:00 p.m.
The open house will give students and families the opportunity
to meet principals, teachers and visit their classrooms.
