Gov. Blunt Visits Williams 9th Grade Center
St. Louis Public Schools new education reform initiative has
captured the attention of Gov. Matt Blunt. Blunt met with teachers
and school leaders March 1 to commend the district for its
efforts to improve student performance. Blunt also used the
visit to promote Missouri’s statewide efforts to raise
academic achievement.
The governor visited the Williams Ninth Grade Center in North
St. Louis. He said he chose the school, in part, because 9th
grade is a critical year for every child.
Superintendent Creg Williams recently announced a new strategic
plan for the district, which includes a comprehensive effort
to effectively prepare students for 9th grade. Blunt is making
school stops across the state to promote the state’s
ideas to improve math, science and reading proficiency.
“In Missouri we have made the education of our young
people our state’s top public policy priority,” Blunt
said. “I am grateful for the opportunity to talk with
students and teachers at Williams 9th Grade Center. St. Louis
Public Schools, as an urban district, is facing some of greatest
educational challenges in the state. But they are making some
bold moves, and I commend Dr. Williams and the school board.”
