“Hearts For Hunger” Canned Food Drive
The students and staff of St. Louis Public Schools collected over 76,500 canned
food items in the 4th Annual Hearts for Hunger Canned Food Drive, sponsored by
the Division of Community Education in partnership with Operation Food Search.
The 67 participating schools supplied food to over 100 local, Operation Food
Search Pantries. The amount collected this year surpassed last years total by
15,000.
For the second consecutive year, Humboldt Middle School collected
the most food items with a total of 7,818 food items. Other
schools leading their respective categories were, Shaw VPA
CEC Elementary, Gateway IT High School and CAJT at Nottingham
CEC.
The Hearts for Hunger Campaign was held February 6-16, 2006.
The four year history of the St. Louis Public Schools’ fight
against hunger has resulted in total of 227,000 food items
distributed to the hungry. This outstanding gift from St. Louis
Public School students provides badly needed food supplies
at a time of the year when the pantries shelves are empty.
The students and staff are to be congratulated for their exemplary
effort.
