MAP Testing Begins For St. Louis Public Schools Students
(March 30, 2007) – Students in the St. Louis Public
Schools have begun taking the annual Missouri Assessment Program
(MAP). Testing will continue through April 27. The MAP tests
identifies the knowledge, skills, and competencies that students
should acquire by the time they complete high school and to
evaluate students progress toward those academic standards.
“Our teachers work very hard each year preparing our
students to take the MAP tests,” said Superintendent
Dr. Diana Bourisaw. “We are asking parents and guardians
to help our students prepare to take these important exams,” she
added.
The District is offering the following advice for parents
to prepare their children for this year’s MAP tests:
Help with material review
Have students well rested and relaxed
Serve a healthy breakfast
Help to ease any of the student’s fears about taking
the test
Don’t be late. Several sections of the MAP are timed,
so being prompt and having enough time to finish the test are
very important
Students also need to prepare themselves by:
Reading the test instructions carefully
Completing the questions
Make sure the question number and answer number match
Pacing themselves so that they don’t spend too much time
on questions for which they don’t know the answer
Checking answers at the end if time permits
Having extra pencils and erasers
Wearing comfortable clothing
The Spring 2007 MAP includes assessments in Communication
Arts (Grades 3-8 and 11), Mathematics (Grades 3-8 and 10),
Science (Grades 3, 7 and 10), and Social Studies (grades 4,
8, and 11).
