SPOT OPENS AT CARR LANE MIDDLE SCHOOL
ARAMARK
School Support Services is providing a unique place for middle
school students to dine and fellowship with one another.
The new eatery is called 12 Spot; its first home belongs
to students at Carr Lane Visual and Performing Arts Middle
School. The March 16 opening, which was attended by honor
roll and honorable mention students, welcomed new cafeteria
colors, a few vibrant photos of attractive teens, a festive
atmosphere and a diverse and appealing menu.
Interim
Superintendent Pamela Randall, parents and teachers gathered
in the familiar Carr Lane cafeteria location where students
hang out and eat. At the opening, Leslie Fowler, ARAMARK’S
marketing manager, introduced the students to a new game
called “Who Wants to Be Healthy”. Students were
asked a variety of health based questions such as what is
a calorie and what’s the world’s favorite snack.
A few health conscious students like Aaprara Mills got the
right answer and pocketed two free movie passes. Other items
students could win were Vokal t-shirts and sports bottles.
Dennis
Brockman, executive director for ARAMARK, believes
12 Spot is just what SLPS middle schools need.
“We conducted research all over the country and asked
nearly 1,000 students what they would like to see in a cafeteria,” Brockman
said.
“Students indicated that they like bright colors and
a variety of foods so we have created that.” At Carr
Lane, more fruits and vegetables are available along with the
familiar pizza items and Asian foods. ARAMARK’s goal
is to eventually have the 12 Spot eatery in all middle schools.
Eighth
grader Elizabeth Klingveil likes the new look
and the new food items. “It’s exciting
because we have more food selections,” she
said. Fellow student Brittany Turner is looking
forward to eating various types of meals. “I
like the new colors too along with the changed
menus,” Brittany stated.
