Principal and Staff Honor Students at “Day of Love” Celebration (posted May 12, 2008)

Roosevelt High School is hosting a “Day of Love” celebration on Friday, May 16 from 11 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. The free, fun-filled event gives the staff an opportunity to show their respect and love for the students and their school. It also recognizes the students’ strides in academic achievement and character development. The celebration supports Roosevelt’s motto: “Kids don’t care how much you know. They just want to know how much you care.”

The “Day of Love” celebration takes place on Roosevelt’s back campus. Food is provided, along with music, dancing and sports. Over 1000 people are expected to attend. Participants are asked to wear red and white in honor of the school’s colors.

“Students benefit emotionally when treated with kindness, compassion, generosity and a forgiving spirit,” said Roosevelt’s principal, Terry Houston. “We want our students to know that we care about them. This involves developing a caring relationship among the students, among the staff, between students and staff, and between staff and families. These caring relationships foster both the desire to learn and the desire to be a good person. Emotionally healthy students and staff come to school better prepared to teach and learn.”
