St. Louis Public School District reports 75% attendance on Monday; Classes to continue Tuesday
St. Louis – Despite an unauthorized walkout by Laidlaw union bus drivers, classes in the St. Louis Public Schools will be in session on Tuesday. Laidlaw once again is bringing in additional drivers. Those drivers, like they did on Monday, will complete double runs in order to get children to school. Parents should be aware that buses may run behind schedule.
SLPS student attendance averaged 75% on Monday, with several schools reporting attendance rates at 80% or better. Average daily attendance district-wide is about 88%. Fifteen thousand students, about half of the district’s enrollment, ride the bus each day.
The St. Louis Public Schools recommend that parents, if they can, wait with their children at the bus stop on Tuesday morning. Parents may also take their children to school, consider car pooling, or ask a neighborhood church or community organization for assistance.
Families who cannot find alternative means may call the following number for transportation assistance: 314-367-6074. Let the representative know the location of the student. A bus will be sent as soon as possible.
