St. Louis School Bus Drivers to Return to Work on Wednesday Normal Day Anticipated for SLPS Students
St. Louis – The St. Louis Public Schools anticipate that bus transportation will be “back to normal” on Wednesday, when drivers for First Student (formerly Laidlaw) return to work. The unauthorized walkout ended today after drivers voted to return to their jobs. Service for after-school activities and athletics resumed this afternoon, as more drivers reported for duty. With the anticipated full crew of bus drivers tomorrow, all of the district’s 545 routes will be covered.
The drivers’ return to work will put an end to longer-than-normal waits at the bus stop – and longer walks to school – for both students and parents. Attendance numbers should also return to normal.
According to First Student, all 860 employees will return to work. Approximately 600 of those drivers transport SLPS students. Other drivers transport children who participate in the Voluntary Interdistrict Choice Corporation, the student transfer program, and serve additional customers.
