Renowned Young People’s Book Author Visits Carr Lane Middle School
St. Louis – Author, poet, playwright and producer, Sheila P. Moses, will visit Carr Lane Visual and Performing Arts Middle School on Wednesday, October 17, at 11:30 a.m. Ms. Moses will discuss her book I, Dred Scott: A Fictional Slave Narrative Based on the Life and Legal Precedent of Dred Scott. She wrote the book to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the infamous U.S. Supreme Court case.
Carr Lane students, all of whom received autographed copies of I, Dred Scott, will have the opportunity to ask questions about the story and the writer’s creative process. The St. Louis Public Library’s Read It Forward program is sponsoring the event.
Ms. Moses was raised the ninth of ten children on Rehobeth Road in Rich Square, North Carolina, where many of her stories take place. Her book, The Legend of Buddy Bush, received a Coretta Scott King Author Honor and was selected as a National Book Award finalist. She has also written The Return of Buddy Bush and Baptism, as well as co-authored Dick Gregory’s memoir Callus on My Soul. She is currently working on her first adult novel, Yard Sale.
