SLPS Counselor Honored with St. Louis American Foundation¡¯s
Salute to Excellence in Education Award
Ms. Sonja P. Little, an SLPS guidance counselor, has been
named one of this year's Excellence in Education Award recipients
from the St. Louis American Foundation. She will be honored
at their 20th annual Salute to Excellence in Education Scholarship & Awards
Banquet this Friday, September 14 at the America¡¯s Center in
Downtown St. Louis.
Ms. Little has been serving the St. Louis Public Schools for
over twenty years. Since 2000, she has worked at Beaumont High
School as a counselor. There, she has made a significant impact
by working closely with staff to significantly raise the number
of graduating seniors who go on to college. She is known as
a cheerleader, bulldog, task master, coach, and dreamer.
¡°My students are hungry for opportunity and we have to give
them what we can. Too many people have closed doors to them,¡±
said Ms. Little.
“We are pleased that Sonja Little is being honored for
her dedication and hard work,” said Superintendent Diana
Bourisaw. “Ms. Little serves as a role model to our
youngsters and her peers.”
