SLPS Counselor Honored with St. Louis American Foundation¡¯s Salute to Excellence in Education Award

Ms. Sonja P. Little, an SLPS guidance counselor, has been named one of this year's Excellence in Education Award recipients from the St. Louis American Foundation. She will be honored at their 20th annual Salute to Excellence in Education Scholarship & Awards Banquet this Friday, September 14 at the America¡¯s Center in Downtown St. Louis.

Ms. Little has been serving the St. Louis Public Schools for over twenty years. Since 2000, she has worked at Beaumont High School as a counselor. There, she has made a significant impact by working closely with staff to significantly raise the number of graduating seniors who go on to college. She is known as a cheerleader, bulldog, task master, coach, and dreamer.

¡°My students are hungry for opportunity and we have to give them what we can. Too many people have closed doors to them,¡± said Ms. Little.

“We are pleased that Sonja Little is being honored for her dedication and hard work,” said Superintendent Diana Bourisaw. “Ms. Little serves as a role model to our youngsters and her peers.”
