SLPS Announces Enrollment Numbers

Attendance figures in the St. Louis Public Schools show that 30,729 students currently are enrolled in the district. On August 20, the first day of school, SLPS opened its doors to 22,793 children.
“We are pleased that enrollment continues to increase,” said Superintendent Diana Bourisaw. “Parents are demonstrating strong interest in the district’s new education initiatives.”

For the 2007-2008 school year, the St. Louis Public School District has introduced several new programs and expanded others. The district has launched a new virtual school program that offers comprehensive online courses to students K-3 and 9-12. Big Picture schools provide a low student-to-teacher ratio and individualized curriculum for students at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.

SLPS also has expanded services in early childhood, ESOL (English Speakers of Other Languages), and gifted education. In addition, the district has increased the number of Advanced Placement and college prep courses.
