Ames Visual and Performing Arts’ mission, shared values, beliefs and vision is to set the highest standards for students and to provide a strong instructional program with an “Arts” emphasis, which is our magnet focus.
We will motivate students to excel academically and socially. These objectives are nurtured in an environment that enables students to develop to their fullest potential.
We seek to develop responsible, competent, self-directed and contributing citizens in an increasingly technological society.
Ames Visual and Performing Arts School is an elementary magnet school whose focus is the visual and performing arts: art, vocal music, band, and dance. Children receive specialized training in a variety of arts activities and perform at school and throughout the community. The student population is Preschool through grade 5. The major goal at Ames VPA is to integrate the arts into content areas of the curriculum. By doing this, it is hoped that a universal exposure to and appreciation for the arts will be achieved. Students are challenged by a rigorous curriculum and emphasis is placed on individual achievement in basic skills.
Opportunities for growth are provided in the areas of self-esteem and personal responsibility. Specialized learning needs are met through special education and Title 1 programs. These programs provide instruction for identified students to supplement the regular classroom instruction.
At Ames VPA, education is the mutual responsibility of students, parents and staff.
Eligible students completing the 5th grade at Ames VPA are guaranteed a seat at Carr Lane Visual and Performing Arts Middle School.
