Long Middle School Student Advances to Missouri Spelling Bee Finals!!!!

Darion Busby, an 8th grade student at Long Middle CEC Academy won the school-level competition of the National Geographic Spelling Bee and a chance at a $25,000 college scholarship. Darion will be eligible to compete in the Missouri state bee on March 30. Congratulations to Darion! We wish him well.

SLPS Students Attend Matinee of “Ain’t Misbehavin!”

Long Middle School and Yeatman-Liddell Prep Jr. High will attend the student matinee of “Ain't Misbehavin,” at the Grandel Theatre on Wednesday, Jan. 31, at 10 am. “This is an excellent opportunity for students to get a deeper appreciation of the theatre,” said Long Middle School Principal Alva Blue.

Carr Lane VPA Students Perform at Old Court House

Students at Carr Lane Visual and Performing Arts Middle School will present an original production celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Dred Scott Decision. The performance is scheduled for Saturday, March 3, at the Old Court House in the rotunda. Sumner High School Featured In History Book

Jeffrey S. Copeland author of Inman’s War: A soldier’s story of Life in a colored Battalion in WWII, will present a reading and slide show at 7 p.m., Feb. 5, at the St. Louis County Headquarters, at 1640 South Lindbergh Blvd. The book features Sumner High School and the famous Ville area as a significant setting in his nonfiction story.
