Art Fair Awards Ceremony

St. Louis Public Schools students will receive special honors at this year’s Art Fair Awards Ceremony. The awards ceremony will take place Friday, March 9, 10 a.m. at The Living World Auditorium at the St. Louis Zoo. Students will receive recognition for their artwork that has been on display since Feb. 23. The artwork will then be displayed at St. Louis University from March 30 through April 13.

Art Olympiad Winner

Congratulations to Keairra Shelton, 6th grader at Gateway Elementary School, for winning the Arts Olympiad state art contest. The art competition was based on the theme “My Favorite Sport.” Keairra will now participate in the World Children’s Festival that will be held June 22-26, 2007, in Washington, DC. U.S. Cellular Awards U.S. Savings Bonds to three SLPS Students Three St. Louis Public Schools students were awarded U.S. Savings Bonds for winning first place in the U.S. Cellular fourth annual Black History Month Art Competition. The company invited first through fifth graders to creatively illustrate famous African Americans in an original portrait. Dunbar Elementary student Tia Pate won a $500 savings bond for her portrait of Rosa Parks. Shaw Elementary student Molly Prummenacher won a $200 savings bond for her portrait of Billie Holiday. Gateway Elementary student Alexis Ramos won a $150 savings bond for her portrait of Katherine Dunham.

Winning artwork will be on display throughout the month of March at the U.S. Cellular retail store located at 1819 Maplewood Commons Drive in Maplewood.

Isaac Bruce speaks with Hamilton students about Healthy Eating

St. Louis Rams football player Isaac Bruce visited students at Hamilton eMINTS School yesterday to help kick off National School Breakfast Week. Bruce talked with the students about developing and maintaining healthy eating choices. The visit was sponsored by ARAMARK.
