Move Over American Idol… Gateway Idol is Here!

Gateway Elementary School has lots of talent. Music teacher Dan Rhoten is preparing to showcase multi-talented students during Gateway Idol, scheduled for Thursday, March 29 at 10 a.m. Students will get a chance to compete in five rounds of competition, and the winners will advance to the final showdown set for Wednesday, May 9, 10:30 a.m., and 7 p.m. and Thursday, May 10, at 10 a.m. All performances will be held in Gateway’s auditorium, #4 Gateway Drive.

eMINTS on Display

The eMINTS Program in the district is hosting its 2nd Annual eMINTS eGG-STRAVAGANZA on Saturday, March 31, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Tower Grove Park at the Sons of Shelter Pavilion. This event will inform the community about the eMINTS program in the district. This is a free event, with activities for all ages, including making Easter baskets, face painting by BeBe the Clown, and an Easter Egg Hunt. There will be parent informational sessions on resume writing, relaxation, and eMINTS. In addition there will be free digital child fingerprinting sponsored by Court TV and Charter Communications, Fire Department Safe House sponsored by St. Louis Fire Department, and St. Louis Children’s Hospital.

Blow Prep Jr. High

Congratulations to 7th, 8th and 9th grade students at Blow elementary school for winning 1st place in a statewide Project Citizenship competition sponsored by the Missouri Bar Association in Jefferson City. Their project will go on to represent the state of Missouri in the national competition in Boston this summer. The sponsor was 9th grade teacher and team leader Lucy Ryder- Duffey.

Beaumont and Gateway Students Win Awards at Future Business Leaders of America District Competitions

Sixteen students from Gateway IT High School and four students from Beaumont High School competed at the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) District Conference on Tuesday, March 6, at ITT Tech in Arnold, MO. Five of Gateway’s students and three of Beaumont’s students placed in the top five in competitions with students from 20 St. Louis area schools. A student from each school qualified to compete at the FBLA State Leadership Conference on April 15-17, 2007 in Columbia, MO. Congratulations to the following students for their hard work:

Beaumont High School:

Joi Whitfield – 1st place in Word Processing 2 – Qualifies for FBLA State Competition
Tyjuan Morrow – 5th place in Word Processing 2
Erica Kennedy – 5th place in Word Processing 1 and 7th place in Public Speaking 1
Ceairia Perry – 8th place in Job Interviewing

Gateway Institute of Technology High School:

· Lesley Rankin – 2nd place in Introduction to Technology Concepts – Qualifies for FBLA State Competition

· Shaunessy Carr – 2nd place overall in Advanced Public Speaking

· Tarza Tawfiq and Clifford Helm – 4th place in Desktop Publishing

· Denzel Robinson – 4th place in Mr. Future Business Leader of America

Ninth Grade Students Shine In Art Competition

St. Louis Public School’s 9th grade students’ artwork was professionally framed and is on display at Framations Art Gallery in St. Charles, MO from March 10 – April 4. The artwork was judged on originality, composition, and how the artwork related to the theme of the show – “Finding Your Light.” All of the students will receive their winning artwork framed. The following students who placed in the contest all received varying amounts of gift certificates to frame additional pieces:
