Three McKinley students are finalist in Express the Music
Competition
McKinley Classical Junior Academy students Kahdijah Cole,
Edina Bisanovic, and Joenndra Gerena-Levy are finalists in
the Express the Music Essay Contest. They were among 1,100
entries. The final competition will be held at Powell Symphony
Hall on April 23 at 7:30 p.m. The students’ teacher is
Veronica Simms, McKinley’s
vocal music teacher.
Eight McKinley students score high on ACT and SAT Test
Eight students from McKinley Classical Junior Academy qualified
for state recognition after scoring high on two college entrance
exams, ACT and SAT. These are 7th grade students who scored
95th percentile or above on the Terra Nova Assessment. One
student qualified for State and Grand recognition. The students
are:

The State recognition will take place at Drury University
in Springfield, MO, and the Grand Recognition will take place
at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.
Roosevelt’s Alumni Golf Tournament Scheduled
The Roosevelt alumni will sponsor an Alumni Golf Tournament
on May 19 at the River Lakes Golf Course in Columbia, MO. Golfing
kicks off at 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. The event is in memory of
former Roosevelt football coach George Anastaoff. All proceeds
will benefit the school’s football program. For more

Gateway Art Teacher to be featured on Channel 9
Keith Westbrook, art teacher at Gateway Institute of Technology,
will be featured on KETC Channel 9 program “Living St.
Louis.” You can see him on Monday, April 16 at 7 p.m.
The program will feature his work as a teacher and artist.
Bunche International Studies students Participate in People
to People Program
Jarvis Brown and Totiana Taylor, students at Bunche International
Studies Middle School, were selected to participate in the
prestigious People to People Student Ambassador program in
Washington, DC. The program promotes peace through understanding
by equipping students with leadership skills and community
service. Students learn about the importance of diversity and
cultural experiences.
Retirement Recognition!!!!!!
The Office of Public Information, for the first time, will
publish a special edition of Spotlight News to congratulate
those who have given outstanding service to the St. Louis Public
Schools! If you are retiring in June 2007, please send your
name, your school and/or name of office, your position, and
years of service to Karen.Hylton@slps.org. Send your information
BEFORE Monday, April 23.The special edition will be published
May 14.
