SOLDAN SPONSORS INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL
Students and staff at Soldan International Studies High School
will sponsor their annual International Festival on Tuesday,
April 24, and Wednesday, April 25, at 9 a.m. in the school’s
auditorium. The festival is a 14-year tradition that features
multicultural activities such as music, dance, art and fashion.
This year’s emphasis is placed on various dance forms
representing traditional and contemporary Hispanic, Afghani,
Somali, Arabic, African-American, Western European and Bosnian
dances. For more information, call Babatunde Deinbo, multicultural
coordinator, at 367-9222.
SPECIAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT SPONSORS FAIR
The Special Education Department will sponsor a “Transition
for Life” fair to be held
on Thursday, April 26, at the Meda P. Washington Education
Center, 2030 South Vandeventer. Fair hours are from 9 a.m.
until 1 p.m. The purpose is to provide high school seniors
information about programs and services that are available
to individuals with disabilities. Community vendors and presenters
will be available to share resources. For more information

ELEMENTARY GEARS UP FOR GATEWAY IDOL FINAL SHOWDOWN!
Gateway Elementary School will hold the Gateway Idol 2007 Final
Ten Concert on Thursday, May 10, at 10 a.m. There will be plenty
of extraordinary talent on display at the magnet school. It’s
free and open to the public.
LANGSTON STUDENTS WIN BIG IN CLEAN AIR BOOKMARK DESIGN CONTEST
Three students from Langston Middle School performed exceptionally
well in the city-wide Clean Air Bookmark Design Contest. The
winners are Jacob Watson, first place;
Bryonita Haywood, second place; and Torry Jacobs, Honorable
Mention. The contest was
sponsored by the Community Air Project and Saint Louis Public
Library.
FOUR SOLDAN STUDENTS ARE GATES MILLENIUM SCHOLARS
Soldan International Studies High School has four seniors who
are Gates Millennium Scholars, including Jeffrey Hall, Jr.,
Kristopher Scruggs, Meaghan Hill and Zoe Manzy-Coates. The
Gates Millennium Scholars program awards 1,000 scholarships
nationwide based on individual student achievements in the
areas of leadership, academics and community service.

The Office of Public Information, for the first time, will
publish a special edition of Spotlight News to congratulate
those who have given outstanding service to the St. Louis
Public Schools! If you are retiring in June 2007, please
send your name, your school and/or name of office, your position,
and years of service to Karen.Hylton@slps.org. Send your
information BEFORE Monday, April 23.The special edition will
be published May 14.
