Additional Retirees to Be Honored
The Office of Public Information will be publishing another
special issue of Spotlight News to highlight retirees of the
St. Louis Public Schools. If you intend to retire at the end
of this school year, please forward your name, position, years
of service, and primary work location to slps.news@slps.org.
Retirees not included in the first issue who have already submitted
their information to Public Information do not need to resubmit.
Educators Recognized
Congratulations to Verona Bowers, Principal of Fanning Middle
School, and Dr. Alice Manu, Assistant Principal at Soldan International
Studies, for being recognized recently by the St. Louis Association
of Secondary School Principals. Bowers was recognized as the
Middle School Principal of the Year, and Dr. Alice Manus was
recognized as the High School Assistant Principal of the Year,
during a May 10 awards ceremony held at the St. Charles Convention
Center.
Chess Tournament
St. Louis Public Schools students will compete in the 3rd
annual chess tournament on Thursday, May 17, from 9:00 a.m.
to 11:45 a.m. The tournament will be held at 801 N. 11th Street
in the Professional Development room. For more information

Roosevelt High School Community BBQ
Roosevelt High School will host a community barbeque on Friday,
May 18 starting at 11:00 a.m. The community, residents, businesses,
students, service providers and elected officials are invited

Excellence in Education
The St. Louis Public School District will honor three excellent
educators who are providing guidance for our young people on
Tuesday, May 22, at the Carondolet Historical Center. The event
will be held at 6303 Michigan Avenue, from 4:00 p.m. until
5:30 p.m. The recipients will be honored in the following categories:
Adelaide M. Schlafly Parent Educator of the Year; Adelaide
M. Schlafly Preschool Teacher of Year; Gertrude Faust Potthoff
Kindergarten Teacher of the Year.
Montessori Celebration
Congratulations to the Montessori Complex for hosting its
Cultural Festival and celebrating 100 years of Montessori Education.
The event was held on May 11, and nearly 400 people attended
the event.
Compton Drew Bicycle Journey
Members of the Compton Drew ILC Dolphin Bicycle Club left
St. Louis this morning for the 6th annual Katy Train Bicycle
Adventure. Two parents and two SLPS staff are accompanying
14 students on the three-day adventure. The students are cycling
from Sedalia to Jefferson City where they will meet with elected
officials. The group will return to St. Louis on Wednesday.
Soldan Students Shine at 8th Annual Entrepreneurship Competition
Congratulations to the following students from Soldan International
Studies High School for participating and placing in the 8th
Annual Entrepreneurship Competition on May 2:
