Former Philadelphia Eagles star visits Vashon High
School
Former Philadelphia Eagle football player Vince Papale, who
inspired the movie "Invincible,"
will appear at Vashon High School on Monday, October 2, at
7:30 a.m.
"Invincible" is the inspirational true story of Vince Papale, who
in 1976, as 30-year-old school teacher and bartender, attended an open tryout
for the Philadelphia Eagles and made the team to become the oldest rookie in
NFL History. With no college football experience, Vince ended up playing four
seasons with the Eagles before retiring in 1979. Vince will speak to the student
body in a 30 minute presentation and will surprise one senior with a "Hold
Fast To Dreams"
$10,000 scholarship.
This appearance is part of the Sallie Mae Fund's
"Hold Fast To Dreams" tour that is designed to motivate
disadvantaged students.
