Application Deadline for St. Louis Magnet Schools is Approaching Fast

The application deadline to be included in the lottery for placement to St. Louis Magnet Schools is Friday, Dec. 29. Applications postmarked Dec. 29 or sooner will be considered lottery eligible. Applications received or postmarked after the Dec. 29th deadline will be processed and considered for placement in the order received behind lottery eligible applications. Magnet schools are a part of the metropolitan-wide school desegregation program. Under this program, each magnet school is racially balanced with the exception of Simmons MEGA.

The application deadline for applicants to Kennard and McKinley Classical Junior Academies, Metro, Central Visual and Performing Arts, Cleveland NJROTC, Gateway Institute of Technology and Soldan International Studies magnet schools, has passed. These applications were to be received by December 15th, 2006, to be included in the lottery. Applications to these schools received or postmarked after the Dec. 15th deadline will be processed and considered for placement in the order received behind lottery eligible applications.

SLPS Technology Department Gives Generously to Three Area Families

The St. Louis Public School’s Information Technology Department adopted three families for the holiday season. Over $8,000 was raised for the families, which includes a total of 14 children ranging from ages 2 months to 16 years old. Gifts included food, clothing, house wares needs, school supplies, toys, gift certificates to local grocery stores, and a special gift basket for the parents. “We couldn’t think of a better way to honor this season by helping those in need,” said Terry Laster, Chief Information Officer.

Stowe Junior High School Students Win Area Art Contest

Kennan Robinson and Breana Jackson were recently named winners in the Great American Smoke Out Contest. The contest, sponsored by Siteman Cancer Center, Barnes Jewish Hospital and Washington University Medical School, drew hundreds of student entries. Both students received $250 gift cards and Keenan’s t-shirt design will be featured at the St. Louis Galleria during the month of January.

Libby’s Jingle Contest

Great News! Two St. Louis Public School students were named the grand prize winners of the Libby's Jingle Contest for the St. Louis market. Khaila Jones and Clari Brooks (from Lyon ABI Elementary School) were selected from a variety of entries in St. Louis. Both Khaila and Clari will each split a $5,000 savings bond ($2,500 bond each) and their school, Lyon ABI will receive a check for $5,000. Also, Khaila and Clari had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to record their jingle at KMJM-FM/KATZ-AM/FM radio station.
