SLPS HAS SUCCESSFUL AUCTION!
Approximately $16,000 was raised at the school district’s
public auction on Thursday,
Dec. 9 at the Cook Street Warehouse. Thousands of items were
auctioned off at a minimal price.
Shoppers offered to purchase old student desks, sewing machines,
typewriters, vintage computers, record players, teachers’ desks
and many other items.
Another auction will be held in February or March of 2006.
SLPS GIVES OVER $43,000 FOR UNITED WAY
St. Louis Public Schools employees once again rose to the
occasion to help those in need. A total of $43,771.96 was raised
to provide financial assistance to 200 health and human service
organizations in the St. Louis community. Thanks to all school
district employees who contributed to the United Way.
NEW LEADERS GIVE GIFTS TO TWO NEEDY FAMILIES
Members of the SLPS New Leaders Project gave away household
items, clothing and toys to two families identified by the
Department of Social Services. One of the families relocated
to St. Louis after they lost everything in the Hurricane Katrina
disaster.
Officials picked up the items on December 21 according to Sheila
Smith Anderson, executive director for Leadership Development.“ I
feel awesome that our leaders are looking within themselves
and asking how can they help others at this time,”
said Anderson.
GATEWAY INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY SENIOR
HONORED BY YWCA
Thuy-Linh Nguyen was recently honored at the YWCA 25th Annual
Leader Lunch and program. Thuy was recognized as a future leader.
She ranks first in her class at Gateway Institute of Technology,
maintaining an A average.

Please be advised that the St. Louis Public Schools headquarters
will be closed on the following days:
Offices will close on Friday, December 23, at 12:30 p.m. and
will open Tuesday, December 27. Offices will close Friday,
December 30 at 12:30 p.m. and will reopen on Tuesday, January
3, 2006.
