Magnet School News
Our Magnet Schools held a Magnet Showcase at the Saint Louis Galleria on Saturday, October 20. The successful event attracted interested parents searching for the perfect educational fit for their child. Shoppers at the Galleria were treated to student performances from Ames VPA, Shaw VPA, Central VPA, Carr Lane, and Bunche International Studies. The annual Magnet Open House is Thursday, November 1 at all magnet schools. Prospective students and families are invited to tour schools, observe classrooms, meet with teachers and students. The Open House event begins 45 minutes after the regular start of school, and concludes 45 minutes prior to the regular end of the day.

Annual United Way Campaign
The annual United Way campaign officially begins with a kick off ceremony at Carr Lane VPA on Monday, October 29 at 2:00 p.m. All school and central office department representatives should attend the kick off to collect their packets. The United Way has requested that all SLPS employee contributions be made on the pledge cards. They will not accept online donations. Pledge cards should be returned to Karen Hylton in Public Information. The campaign runs through November 14. SLPS has been a proud supporter of the United Way for many years.

Trick or Treat
Students from the Downtown Academy (formerly Patrick Henry) will join us at central office for our annual Trick or Treat on Wednesday, October 31 from 12:30-2:00 p.m. Please make sure your department has enough treats to share for approximately 200 students. Central office staff is welcome to wear costumes for the event. We still need door greeters and escorts to walk with the children. Please contact Kate Stewart at 345-4694, or email kate.stewart@slps.org if you would like to volunteer.

Join the United Way for a complimentary popcorn party on October 31 at 2:00 p.m. in the third floor breakroom. United Way representatives will be there to answer questions, collect pledge cards, and offer incentives for those who stop by.
