Meet The Teacher

Hello, my name is Melanie Shehorn and I will be your child’s 2^nd Grade teacher.

This will be my 8^th year of teaching but my first year with SLPS.  I am originally from Illinois and graduated from Eastern Illinois University.  I have worked with every grade level from Pre-K to 12^th as a teacher, coach, or interventionist.  But my passion is elementary education and I’m very excited to be your child's teacher this year!  When I’m not in the classroom, I enjoy hiking with my dog, spending time with my family, and playing sand volleyball.

This year will be filled with fun and engaging activities, lots of exciting stories, and so much more.  My hope is to inspire your child to become a lifelong learner and provide them with a classroom where they can thrive.  I look forward to working with you and getting to know your scholars to help them reach their fullest potential.  Thank you for trusting me with your child’s education.
