Ms. Kathryn (Kate) Berger
Dear Students and Families,
I am excited to be back for my sixth year at Gateway! However, to be perfectly honest, I'm also a little nervous about online learning. Both teachers and students are going to have to learn a lot this year, but I believe we can make this work, so long as we are all patient and open-minded.
Here is a bit of background about myself. I come from a large St. Louis family and have lived here most of my life. I earned my undergraduate degree in History, with English Honors, from the University of Texas at Austin. I also have a master's degree in Teaching English as a Second Language from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. This is my fifteenth year teaching; I have also taught at St. Louis Community College for many years. I love language and literature, and I love teaching my students how to be better readers and writers.
Currently, I am studying Spanish at Saint Louis University, with the dream of earning a Master's Degree in Spanish. Besides reading books, I enjoy cooking, gardening, and spending time outside, especially along the spring-fed rivers in southern Missouri, an area known as the Ozarks.
The best way to reach me is by email at: Kathryn.Berger@slps.org. I'm almost always available before and after school, and I'm happy to set up a meeting, if that's more convenient, to discuss your students' progress or any other questions or concerns that you may have.
Thank you for visiting my webpage!
Stay safe and be nice,
Ms. Berger
