State Capitol BureauA state-appointed board took charge in 2007 and now the district is up for review to obtain provisional accreditation.CEO of the state-appointed board Richard Sullivan says that policies set in place by the district led to an academic and financial turnaround. The district now projects its third straight year of budget surplus.
"A lot of focus was put on the students, a lot of focus was put on the classrooms. Yet, we did that, I think we achieved that increasing programs, increasing the academic pools and at the same time we are balancing that budget."Sullivan says more work needs to be done to prevent these changes from being temporary.
