ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - There's a new proposal to slash millions from the budget of Saint Louis Public Schools.
The plan calls for nearly $15 million in cuts, mostly through staff reductions and early retirement.
There could also be 134 staff positions cut, including teachers.
Superintendent Kelvin Adams also made recommendations to the board to close six schools. One of the schools on
the list is Cleveland Junior Naval ROTC Academy.
If the plan passes, the school would stop accepting students this fall, but current students would be allowed to
complete the program.
Other schools targeted for closure are: Sherman elementary, L'Ouverture Middle, Fresh Start South, Multiple
Pathways alternative and Beaumont High.
The district is holding two public forums to discuss the proposal on Saturday, March 2. The first will be from 10
a.m. until 12 p.m. at Vashon High School. The second will be held from 12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at Central VPA
High School.
District residents can also provide feedback
through the school district's website. The board is expected to vote on the plan in two weeks.
