ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - An 18-year-old student from Clyde C. Miller Academy is the first from the school to be accepted at an Ivy League university.

Destiny Crockett plans to attend Princeton University and major in English.

She graduated from the St. Louis high school in May and was valedictorian of her class.

Crockett credits the college bound counseling program which mentors children who are the first college students in their families.

"I think the only real odds facing me was that I was raised by a single mother who dropped out of college so she could raise me and give me a good life and she emphasized education for me," said Crockett.

Crockett leaves for Princeton in mid-July.

She was also accepted at Dartmouth.
