St. Louis Public Schools eyes new elementary school

ST. LOUIS -- St. Louis Public Schools will hold two public forums this week to gather input on its plans to demolish Shenandoah Elementary School in the Tower Grove East neighborhood. The district would build a new elementary school in its place that would also serve students at Mann Elementary School, 4047 Juniata Street, which would close as a result.

District officials say they're also open to renovating and expanding Shenandoah Elementary, 3412 Shenandoah Avenue, if there's too much opposition to razing the 87-year-old building.

The first forum is planned for 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the cafeteria at Roosevelt High School, 3230 Hartford Street. Parking will be available at Compton Avenue and Juniata Street. The second forum is scheduled for 10 a.m. To noon Saturday in the cafeteria shared by Central VPA High and Cleveland NJROTC High schools, 3125 South Kingshighway. Street parking will be available on Kemper Avenue.

Spanish, Vietnamese and Nepali language interpreters will be available at the forums. To respond, call 314-345-INFO (4636) or visit www.slps.org/towergrove.
