    Hello Parents and Students,

Welcome to our classroom!  I hope this letter finds your family healthy and safe.  I am excited to be co-teaching with Ms. Lovetts’ 1st grade classroom this year!  As we begin this school year, unsure how it will look or what procedures we will need to follow, please feel confident that I will help you and your child adjust to the changes and communicate updates to you on a regular basis.  Together, we will work to help your child grow socially and academically.

For those of you that do not know me, my name is Ms. Susan Hanlin and I will be your child’s kindergarten teacher this year.  This school year will be filled with many new experiences and learning for your child.  We will be following the first grade curriculum.  Your child will learn to count money, tell time, read stories, as well as learn about different people in history and learn about science through experimentation.  We will also collaborate three days a week with the first grade gifted and second grade gifted classrooms for PBL studies.  I look forward to working with you and your child throughout the school year.

Character education will play a very important role in the Elephant’s classroom.  As a class, we will work through problems together by showing kindness and respect with our words.  We will collaborate with each other on different strategies we can use in different situations.  The children will understand and work to exhibit the expectations both socially and academically.  With not only my efforts, but yours as well, this will be a successful year for both you and your child.

Please feel free to contact me via email or phone if you have any questions or concerns.  I am looking forward to a great year, one filled with lots of learning opportunities and adventures!  Thank you in advance for your support this upcoming school year!  Attached you will find a list of classroom items that will need to be brought the first day of school.  If your child will be riding the bus, please make sure their bus letter is in their book bag.

Have a great summer and read lot of books!  I will see you Monday, August 24th!
