    WELCOME TO KINDERGARTEN

    Dear Parents,

I would like to welcome you to Pierre Laclede Jr. Career Academy.  I hope you and your child are looking forward to an exciting year in Kindergarten!  I am anxious to meet and work with your child this year!

Kindergarten is one of the most important and influential experiences in a child’s life.  It is a special time when you will see growth in your child’s independence, curiosity, motivation, and cooperation, as well as a love for learning.

My goal as your child’s teacher is to help him/her develop intellectually, physically, emotionally, and socially.  He/she will explore many concrete learning experiences through many “hands-on” explorations, which will enrich and challenge all areas of his/her learning.  We will build upon prior knowledge as well as lay a foundation for future learning in language development, listening, speaking, and motor skills.  I look forward to working together as a team to make your child’s school year a positive experience!

    SHOW-N-TELL  baseball

We will have a special time for Show-and-Tell.  The purpose is for the children to become more comfortable speaking in front of others using detailed information.  Please encourage your child to find objects that teach us about him/her.  We’d love to see pictures, trophies, handmade crafts, stuffed animals, etc…Watch for more information as to when we’ll begin.

    STAR OF THE WEEK   basketball

EVERY child will get the opportunity to be Star of the Week once during the year.  When it is your child’s turn, he/she will bring home a poster to decorate with pictures about themselves and will need to return it on Monday. The “Star of the Week” will be given special activities and privileges each day of the following week.  Being “Star of the Week” is a way for your child to be engaged actively in oral language experience.  They will speak to an audience (other classmates) and answer relevant questions about themselves.  This is a fun week for each child to share with our class all the things that make them special!

    CONFERENCES   Hockey
Laclede Elementary will have Parent/Teacher conferences twice a year. The first conference will be held in October. I will send a note home to schedule a time for us to meet.  This is a great way for me to share with you the progress that your child is making in school.

DISCIPLINE    During the first week of school we will create a set of rules for the classroom. These will be discussed and practiced often.   We will take time to illustrate what it would look like if someone is following these expectations.  The children will bring this form home to share with you.   If we work together as a team, I anticipate very few discipline problems.

     COMMUNICATION  SWIM

Communication between home and school is essential!  I will be sending home a newsletter and calendar at the beginning of every month.  If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please contact me.  You may send a note with your child, call the office or you can reach me on my cell phone (636)579-2293 or by e-mail at robin.jung@slps.org

     HOMEWORK     volleyball

Homework is a very important part of Kindergarten.  Your child is expected to read 15 minutes each day.  A reading log will be sent home each month.  As you and your child read, please write down the book that was read and how long was spent reading.  If your child returns the sheet at the end of the month filled out he/she will earn a reward. Besides reading, I will also be sending home daily homework.  Your child will be graded on completed homework, so it is very important that homework is completed and returned.  On occasions, I will also be sending home a Family homework activity that will need to be completed and returned.

     Attendance     ball

Attendance is very important to your child’s success in school. Students are expected to come to school every day ready to learn. We have many incentives throughout the school year for those students who come to school on time every day.

Thanks in advance for your support and cooperation this year!!!
