    1. Entering the room Enter silently (level 0) and politely; do not jump in front of other students; follow the appropriate procedures for each time of day (e.g., morning, switching classes, after gatherings/dances).
    2. Lining up – Students will be dismissed to line up by pods.  When dismissed, students are to stand up silently; push in your chair quietly; take all your items; line up 3 squares from the wall beginning on the navy-blue square. This is done without touching others or talking; face the front of the line; watch where you are going.
    3. Leaving the room If you need to leave the room, raise your hand to get permission; get a hall pass; do not run or play in the hallways or restrooms.
    4. Beginning Advisory Period When arriving to the 7th grade floor, line up opposite of the lockers outside of room 201. You will go to your lockers by odd/even, this is based on the date. You are put away your backpack, lunch, and coat and get your materials for Period 2 and Period 3. Immediately and silently line up 2 squares from the wall.
    5. Beginning the Class - Silently line up 1 square from the wall opposite from the lockers. All students must be in dress code prior to entering the classroom. (Young men have shirts tucked in; if wearing a jacket it is Navy-Blue or Burgundy without writing or large logos) The class will enter the room together silently; take out your homework and put it in the right-hand corner of your desk; the pod materials manager will get the science notebooks; students will silently complete the Do Now within the first 5 minutes of class.
    6. Ending the class Remove all items from the desk; leave out your work to be turned in; materials manager will collect science notebooks and return them to the class bookshelf; pick up any trash within three feet of your desk; collect your belongings; wait to be dismissed; quietly push in your chair and line up silently.
    7. Taking out/putting away/caring for supplies The pods Materials Manager is the only person permitted to request and/or get any materials. All supplies are to be shared. All shared supplies are to be taken care of, this means all markers and glue are recapped. When directed to wrap-up all supplies should be neatly organized in the materials caddy and placed in the center of the pod or returned to the student supply area by Material Manager. (You will be given directions as what you are to do.)
    8. Participating in-group lessons Sit in assigned learning pod; listen carefully for new information; be respectful in your speech and behavior; do not speak when someone else is speaking or berate another students’ contributions.
    9. Obtaining help with assignments –Students will collaborate on many assignments. Therefore, if a student needs assistance it is expected for students to quietly ask their pod members for help before inquiring assistance from the teacher.
    10. Handing in finished work/homework Make sure you have the CD Heading on your paper and turn it in your work on the way out of class.
    11. When and how to use the school restroom Students are not permitted during the first 10 minutes or last 10 minutes of class to leave. Furthermore, students may not leave to use the restroom during instruction.  Students will be allowed to go to the restroom during independent or group work time.  When a student needs to use the restroom they are to do so in the following manner: stay in your seat and raise your hand to ask to use the restroom; get a pass and leave the room quietly; Do Not  play in the restroom; promptly return to class within two minutes.
    12. When and how to use the drinking fountain– When I am not teaching the whole group, raise your hand to ask to get a drink; get a pass and leave the room silently. Do Not play in the hall; promptly return to class within one minute.
    13. Sharpening Pencils If you need to sharpen a pencil during class raise your hand and wait for permission to get up and sharpen pencil.
    14. Advisory jobs– Students will be assigned jobs and will rotate through all the positions. Each position last for 1 week. Positions are as follow: Line Leader, Caboose, Librarian, Secretary, White Board Washer, Cleaning Manager, and Floor Specialist.

    Pod jobs- Students will be assigned a pod job. Student will be in the same pod for 4 weeks and will serve in each position a duration of 1 week. Positions are as follow: Pod Manager, Materials Manager, Timekeeper, and Recorder.

    1. Getting into work groups Occasionally, students will work together in different groups rather than pod groups.  When working with a different group other than your pod: take all the materials you will need with you; greet each other; complete the task doing your personal best; make sure each person signs the project; thank the others in your group.
    2. Using the classroom library – When you have completed all assignments, you are expected to read a book or magazine from the class library. You may check out a book from my library when I am not teaching the whole group.
    3. Checking out a book: Select your book, complete the sign-out sheet. Take good care of my book. When you are finished reading the book, return it to me and I will check it off the list. You will have exactly 1 week to keep the book. *If you need longer bring the book back and I will recheck it out to you for an additional week.
    4. Heading all your papers The heading for all work (daily work, homework, quizzes, test, or projects) should include the student’s first and last name, the date, content area (Science, Social Studies Mathematics, English Language Arts), and class period. All words must be written out; NO Abbreviations.

      Title: Do Now                                         

    1. Preparing for lunch Go to your locker; get your lunch and line up three squares from the lockers facing the direction to move towards the main stairwell; voices are off and hands are to yourself.
    2. Getting a tissue If you need a tissue, raise your hand, or give the signal (hand over your nose) I will acknowledge you and you may silently get up and get a tissue. Make sure to throw the used tissue away immediately; make sure it lands in the trash can; use hand sanitizer; get right back to work.
    3. Taking attendance Attendance is taken within the first 10 minutes of each class. When the students name is called the expectation is for the student to answer “here”, “good morning”, or “good afternoon” loud enough to be heard.
    4. Throwing away trash – All trash may be thrown away at the end of class. ALL paper is to be placed into the blue recycling bin. All other trash is to be disposed of in the trashcan. Students should not play basketball with your paper. Pick up any trash on the floor even if it isn't yours.
    5. Turning in lost items Ask the people around you if they lost the item you found; if not, write your name and the date on a slip of paper and tape the item to it.  If it is money or something valuable, turn the item/money into me; if not, put it in the Lost and Found Navy-Blue Bin and give yourself a "pat on the back" for being honest.
    6. Locating lost items Ask the people around you if they found the item you lost; if not, check the Lost and Found bin; if it is not there, ask me at a time when I'm not teaching the class; if you find it, thank the person who turned it in; next time, try to take care of your things.
    7. Pledges When saying the Pledge of Allegiance, stop what you are doing immediately, stand up; place your right hand over your heart; say the Pledge of Allegiance. Immediately following we will say the Compton-Drew Pledge and the Morning Affirmation.  Students are expected to remain standing during the pledges and morning affirmation. ALL students are required to know the Compton-Drew Pledge.
    8. Visitors in the classroom When visitors enter the room students are expected to continue working.  The teacher will greet the visitor(s) and if warranted the visitor will introduce themselves. Remember, most visitors are here to watch you learn, so be ready to explain what you are working on; treat visitors respectfully.
    9. Fire drill – Stop everything; stand up and line up quickly and silently, without running or pushing; do not cover your ears; do not make any side trips; the line leader will lead the line outside when directed to move; the second person in line holds the classroom door for the rest of the class; the third person in line holds the outside door only for our class, then becomes the last person in line; wait patiently, calmly, and quietly in line outside until we are allowed to go back to what we were doing.
    10. Signals for attention When I need your attention, we will use call and respond.  Teacher says “Science” Students reply “Rocks!” As soon as you hear the signal, stop what you are doing, look at me, respond to the call and then your voice is off. I will also use a Count Down from 5 when I say 1 ALL voices are off and ALL eyes on me.
    11. Helping other students In a cooperative classroom, it is good to help one another therefore, during cooperative learning if someone needs help with directions or reading an assignment, help him or her if you are able; if they still do not understand, encourage them to ask me for help; never put down or shame another student who asks for help.

    Written Assignments and Academic Misconduct: All written work submitted must be the student’s original work and conform to the guidelines provided by the teacher. This means that any substantive ideas, phrases, sentences, and/or any published ideas must be properly referenced to avoid even the appearance of plagiarism. It is the student’s responsibility to know all relevant school policies concerning plagiarism. Any documented cases of plagiarism can and will result in a failing grade.
