• Levels of Involvement in NBCT

The purpose of this document is to clearly communicate that each parent may determine individually how they would like their students to be involved in my process of National Board Certification. There are different levels of involvement.

As the permission forms state: "The primary purposes of this assessment are to make decisions about whether a teacher demonstrates knowledge and practice expected of an accomplished teacher, improve student learning and encourage excellence in teaching."

All students will reap the benefits of this process!

  • Component 2: Why is anyone being singled out for special support?

The purpose of this document is to clearly convey the expectations from National Board to instructors wishing to certify in component two for Exceptional Needs Specialist.

Please note that no one is being "singled out". The individuals that I will be documenting currently need differentiation in the classroom, within a classroom of exceptional students. Differentiation means changing the instructional approach to meet the diverse needs of students. I will be preparing information from more than one student, to ensure against unforseeable circumstances.

This component is to demonstrate that I am skilled at changing my instruction and making adjustments for learners at many different levels, and with differing goals in mind for individuals with exceptional needs.

  • Component 3: What will be recorded, and why?

The purpose of this document is to clearly convey the information directly from National Board in regard to the video requirements.

In short, I must submit two videos of instruction in my classroom, from different units of instruction, of 10-15 uninterrupted minutes in length.

  • Component 4: Why do you need anything from the community?

The purpose of this document is to clearly communicate the expectations given to instructors wishing to certify with the National Board in Component 4.

Component 4 is actually two separate parts.

1: The instructor must identify a group of students by collecting relevant information from families and caregivers, the community, colleagues, and other sources, then, research and implement an intervention to support that group.

2: The instructor must identify a professional learning need in order to positively impact student learning within the community.

Though I have ideas, I must have input from families, community members, my colleagues, and other sources before making a decision on what to implement.

And, I must educate others within my learning community in regard to professional development that is informed by the student's needs.
