Mr. Maxey

"Every person you will ever meet knows something you don't." - Bill Nye

Hello, and thanks for visiting! I hope you're all staying safe out there. I'm so excited for the 2021-2022 school year!

I'm Mr. Maxey, and I teach English IV, AP Literature & Composition, Creative Writing, and Film History & Techniques. In the past, I've taught English I and English III as well. I was born and raised in the St. Louis area where I attended both St. Louis Community College and Webster University. In addition to typical literature and grammar instruction, I also try to incorporate social equity, media literacy, and other modern topics for discussion and instruction. I believe that everything can teach a person something, and that philosophy drives my teaching style.

I'm a fan of comics and graphic novels, and I will gladly discuss them with anyone who will listen. I've written and published multiple comics over the past few years. I'm also a musician; I play saxophone, guitar, and trumpet, but bass has been my instrument of choice for the last 20 years. I absolutely love movies, too, and try to incorporate small bits of film analysis in my classroom.

If you need anything, please feel free to email me, and I will get back to you ASAP.

Below is my way of saying "Welcome back!" for the school year. It will tell you a few things about me as a person as well as preview some of the types of materials you can expect to see this school year.
