As a recent graduate, I am excited to be in the classroom leading, assisting and learning with students. Mathematics is all about developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills. These skills allow us to be aware of how things function as we go out in the world and to act as agents of change.

While growing students' knowledge of the Algebra and Geometry curriculums, I will encourage students to begin thinking about their future prospects in terms of pathways into Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Part of our schedule will include multipronged explorations of what course of action students can take to begin their journey in STEM as high school students, in addition to looking at the types of opportunities that lie ahead of them at university and beyond. Every student will come away with a consideration of what STEM field best fits their personality and interests so that they have a lens into careers that do applications of math. This will occur alongside our dedicated daily effort to become proficient in curriculums that will both stimulate students and captivate their thinking.

This is my first year as a full-time teacher after a semester as a long-term sub in mathematics at Metro. I did my student teaching in SLPS and have an understanding of the district and also traits specific to Metro. The school has an incredible environment that fosters responsibility, accountability, independence, camaraderie and inclusion. These traits make Metro a phenomenal place to participate in the learning process. By balancing the introduction of novel ideas and challenging problem types with opportunities to revisit and review, I will strive to serve this unique student body as best as I can. I will also keep lines of communication open, friendly and professional so that we as teachers, parents and students can build a learning community that leads to successful academic outcomes.
