Pathways to Biliteracy

The Pathways to Biliteracy awards recognize students as they work toward becoming proficient in English and at least one other world language. These milestones celebrate students' progress in developing language skills over time and encourage continued growth toward biliteracy. This recognition acknowledges the effort, dedication, and cultural awareness that language learning requires.

Who Can Earn It

There are two Pathways to Biliteracy awards: Emerging Bilingual and Developing Bilingual.

  • Emerging Bilingual is an award available to students completing PreK 4 who demonstrate effort in becoming bilingual or multilingual by completing activities on the Pathways to Biliteracy game board.
  • Developing Bilingual is an award available to students completing 5th grade and 8th grade who demonstrate effort in becoming bilingual or multilingual by completing activities on the Pathways to Biliteracy game board.

Native English speakers who study a world language and English language learners who are developing proficiency in English while maintaining their native language are eligible for these awards.

Why It Matters
