The National Merit Scholarship Program is a prestigious academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. Each year, more than 1.5 million high school juniors enter the program by taking the PSAT/NMSQT. From that group, about 16,000 students nationwide are named Semifinalists, representing the highest-scoring participants in each state.
To advance to Finalist standing, students must demonstrate consistently strong academic performance, receive endorsement from their school, submit a detailed scholarship application, and earn qualifying SAT or ACT scores. Approximately 15,000 students nationwide ultimately achieve Finalist status.
Finalists are now eligible to compete for National Merit Scholarships, which will be announced later this spring.
SLPS congratulates these students and their families on this milestone and wishes them continued success as they move forward in the National Merit Scholarship competition.
